Maintenance this Wednesday
From Doctacosa

Please be aware that a maintenance period will happen this Wednesday, the 29th, during the afternoon and possibly evening going by Eastern time.

I was able to secure a better dedicated, with higher specs, and will be moving everything over to this. This will give us more storage and memory for a better in-game experience! Each game server will be moved, one after the other, and the older platform will be retired. The minigames and affiliates will be available first, while the survival servers, the largest by far, will be migrated and come back online one-by-one.

The entire network will be unavailable for a few minutes at least. For these type of transfers, most of you will see the change after these few minutes, but it could take several hours, up to day, for others to get the connection working again.

All survival servers updated to 1.18.1!
From Doctacosa

You've been waiting, and now is the time - all survival servers have been updated to Java Edition 1.18.1! Update your clients, then join in to discover the new lands!

Wait, what new lands, you might ask? All overworlds now benefit from the updated world generation limits, meaning that there are caves going down to y = -64. Likewise, you can now choose to build 64 blocks higher, up to y = 319.

We've also prepared new lands for you to explore, as you might want to see and build in this brave new world. However, this might not be where you expect. Laurasia has been running for over 10 years now, already features a mish-mash of various generations, plus is difficult to maintain. The red no-entry areas that were put into place some time back are there to stay, with no new land becoming available. Adding a new world wasn't chosen as an option, as we already have more than we need for our current player base.

Instead, Rodinia will become the primary world for new additions. It has a cleaner design and is much easier to navigate, making it a good starting point. As such, Rodinia's borders were extended 2000 blocks North and West, giving you new opportunities to go beyond the outer rail and see what's out there! Its South and East ends are considered for new extensions come 1.19, so that the Deep Dark features can be made available to you. Plans on this will be made closer to the next major release.

A few things are left to do, later today and tomorrow:

  • Laurasia will be down approximately between 1am and 8am Eastern time to let it retrogen the new terrain, limiting lag.
  • Kenorland will be updated shortly.
  • Then the minigames to complete the set.

I hope you enjoy the latest set of updates!

Building contest: it's Christmas time!
From Doctacosa

Right off the heels of Osimiri Ihu comes the next building contest, the last for this year! In theme with the season, Zoreau invites you to help build a small Christmas village.

Rules

The goal of this contest is to build a Santa Workshop or a Gingerbred House; multiples of each can be done, of course.

There are only six plots available, and it's first come first serve! With the limited amount available, please only claim one if you're reasonably sure you will complete your entry. The lots measure roughly 24x25 and are marked by rings of torches.

Judging will be done on both the interior and exterior of each entry, so make sure to spend time on the two!

The building location is behind the Creeper Citadel in Laurasia, at around 6300, -14847. Elytra + rockets are suggested for a quick trip.

Prizes

  • First Place: 20 Merit Points.
  • Second Place: 10 Merit Points.
  • Third Place: 5 Merit Points.

Deadline

The contest begins NOW and will end of Wednesday 22 December, at 21:00 Eastern time Thursday 23 December, at 19:00 Eastern time.

If you're not planning to enter and would like to help with judging, please get in touch with Zoreau; you can leave him a message through the forums. The same goes if you have questions about this!

A busy December!
From Doctacosa

Advent calendar

Some of you have asked, and I'm happy to confirm that the Advent Calendar is making its return, starting now until Christmas! Twixxi has prepared a new rotation of daily gifts plus new bonus rewards for you to gather.

For those not familiar with it, the concept is simple: go there, get a gift, and you can do so every day starting today up until (and including) Christmas! The rotation happens every day at around midnight, Eastern time.

The Loyalty Baubles from last year also make their return! Every day that you visit the calendar, you'll get your gift alongside a token. You can then trade these at the hut nearby. Two new items have been added to the collection for a wider variety of rewards. Will you go for duplicates of last year's items, the new goodies, or a mix between the two? That's up to you!

If you had any Loyalty Baubles left from last year, they are still accepted.

If you miss out on some items, every week, the Grinch will be there to cover you - for a price. However, the Grinch pledges loyalty to no one, and there will be no catching up on the extra rewards!

This is located in Central's Seasonal Park. From Grand Central Station, in the basement, use the Residential Line until you're next to the snowy park. Alternatively, walk West from the station, passing in front of the Community Centre then following that path to the North.

1.18 has been released, and we're compatible!
From Doctacosa

Minecraft 1.18 has been released a few hours ago, and our own preparations are underway! The entire network now accepts connections from 1.18 players on both Java and Bedrock editions, so you can continue playing right away. The actual update with 1.18 features will happen later.

Java players, for the best experience, I recommend continuing to use 1.17.1 for now. Bedrock players, let your auto-updater do its job, as you can now connect using either versions.

The actual upgrade will happen once all necessary server software has been updated and tested, including the plugins. We don't have a timeline for this yet.

Tenth anniversary recap!
From Doctacosa

That was exciting, wasn't it? I hope you enjoyed our tenth anniversary celebrations! Here's a look back to our seven announcements in case you missed any or need a reminder!

And of course, more will happen in the coming weeks, months, years...

If you liked this and want to see more, may I ask you to consider pledging your support on Patreon? Any amount helps, and in exchange, you can get access to all kind of cool perks like trails, custom titles, postcards and more, with the satisfaction of helping your favorite Minecraft community grow! You can also gain some insights on the way I do things, like my latest post on the challenges of preparing this week of celebrations. For more, check the How to Help section, or jump directly to my Patreon page.

Features that some of you had been asking for a long time have been added to Patreon in the past year, including the option of paying by year instead of by month, along with the ability to pay in other currencies like CAD, EUR and GBP. As such, it's more convenient than ever; thank you for considering it!

As a last note, in case you missed it, our tenth anniversary video is now available on our YouTube channel.

Here's to many more years of mining and crafting!

Day 7: Introducing the Creeper's Lab App!
From Doctacosa

For our last major anniversary update, I'm happy to announce something completely new: the Creeper's Lab Companion, a mobile and desktop app to let you quickly access the essentials!

Companion logo

As its name suggests, once installed (or accessed online), the Companion's goal is to assist you in finding the information you need. That way, you don't need to browse the full website and interrupt your play!

The Companion currently lets you do the following:

  • Useful links
  • View the maps easily
  • Browse through the news
  • Run searches on players, news, wiki, forums
  • View the list of online players
  • Login to your account

You can get it now from Google Play or the Microsoft Store, or directly access the online version!

<div class="app_stores"> <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.creeperslab.companion&pcampaignid=pcampaignidMKT-Other-global-all-co-prtnr-py-PartBadge-Mar2515-1"><img alt="Get it on Google Play" src="images/badge-google-play-en.png"/></a> <a href="https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9NBSJCX4QDC9?cid=storebadge&amp;ocid=badge"><img src="images/badge-microsoft-en.png" alt="Get it from Microsoft" /></a> <a href="https://app.creeperslab.net"><img src="images/badge-use-online-en.png" alt="Use It Online" /></a> </div>

iOS users, I've love to have it directly available on the App Store too, but these types of applications aren't supported by Apple at this time. Instead, do the following:

  1. Open the online version.
  2. Click the Share button.
  3. Select "Add to Home Screen".
  4. That's it! You'll get an icon that lets it open like any other of your apps.

This is just a starting point, and more features are already planned to be added over time. If you have any suggestions, don't hesitate to offer them!

Come back tomorrow for a recap on the past week of releases!

17 November 2021 at 19:03
Day 6: Our wiki as a resource!
From Doctacosa

Did you know that the Creeper's Lab has its own wiki? It's true!

What originally started as a way to document the various items found within the science areas has grown to cover several different aspects of the Lab and everything found within. Here are some examples that you might find interesting:

I've recently added a whole new section called What To Do, which gives a quick summary of the various things one can do here. If you're tired of building, you could go achievements hunting. If you have all of them, the minigames get a mention. If you're looking for alternatives, there are several, so why not give it a read!

The best part is, anyone can work on it! If you have an idea on a new page to create, or see a correction to make, login to the wiki using your Discord account and get going. It's as easy as that! You might want to check the wiki guide as a starting point.

Come back tomorrow for an unexpected addition!

Day 5: Better player profiles!
From Doctacosa

We're got achievements, kills, deaths, blocks placed and broken, and so much more. To make these numbers visible to you, and give you an opportunity to view your own progress and compare with others, we have detailed player profiles available. As a reminder, you can type /profile in-game to quickly access your own profile.

Based on various player feedback and ideas thrown my way over time, I've pushed today a wide set of improvements to the data displayed! Several new additions have been made to get you a much more complete view of everyone's progress.

The individual player profiles now offer the following:

  • For each top 10-style statistic, the total amount is also included.
  • The progression through the Horsemen Areas is highlighted.
  • Each Guild will display the top title earned.

The global scores page hasn't been forgotten, as it now includes the following:

  • If logged in, your own position will be highlighted.
  • If you're not in the top 10, your rank will be displayed too.
  • The leaderboards now include the most playtime and voters.

Also, following up on last weekend, the global statistics include the best times on each parkour course, plus the best scores obtained in racing's time trials! Likewise, when looking at a player's profiles, their own best scores in parkour and racing will be displayed (if they have any).

I have more ideas related to player profiles, so be on the lookout for that in the coming months!

Tomorrow, valuable information about information!

Day 4: Player-led initiatives!
From Doctacosa

The Creeper's Lab features its survival experience first and foremost, but sometimes that might not scratch the itch. To give you some wider variety of play styles, we also have a variety of player-led initiatives, such the affiliated servers, events and building contests!

Miranda is run by Skreelink and has been attached to us for several years now. The main gameplay mode is still the survival you're used to, with one major difference: there is an item store right next to the spawn point, where you can get all the blocks you can carry for free! The only admission cost is a single iron ingot to open the door. There is also a level downstairs for valuables, at an extra cost. This makes Miranda especially suitable for large scale builds, as you can get a lot of blocks for little effort, thus giving you a chance to focus on the construction. Take a look at its map if you're interested in adding to it. Worth mentioning, today happens to mark the sixth anniversary of it joining us online!

The newest addition is the Sandbox, from GroovyBanana. Unlike others, this one runs in full creative mode, letting you do whatever without worrying about supplies or deaths. This is a great spot to prototype your newest creations while still enjoying the global chat link with the community. Do note that the Sandbox could be periodically wiped and reset, so this is best taken as a testing and development area.

Both are only accessible to players who have earned the Trusted status. They both aim to be available 24/7, just like the rest of the network, although they can experience short down times. If that's the case, get in touch with their respective owners for a quick fix!

On a smaller scale but also important are the various events run by the players! Anyone is free to schedule events at any time, although the most obvious time period is obviously during Events Nights. There are a variety of pre-made templates available to make the work easier. Anyone interested should look at the templates (or come up with their own thing), then post on the forums to request a time period.

Ever popular is our ongoing series of building contests. Once in a while, people are invited to gather in a single location to create something new based on a given setting. This led to a lot of nice neighborhoods and impressive sites to appear over the years! Any player is free to run their own contests, by following the guidelines and getting in touch with Doctacosa. We have a healthy sequence of building contests scheduled for the next few months, too, so be on the lookout for these!

See you tomorrow for something improved!

14 November 2021 at 19:07
Day 3: Major Parkour improvements!
From Doctacosa

Our parkour mode has been available for some years now, yet it offered only the most basic of features. I'm adding today multiple improvements to make it more fun!

First and foremost, your progress through the various courses is now tracked! Going beyond the simple satisfaction of completing a challenge, the time it took you to complete each one is now recorded, along with your number of deaths. The best score for each course will be displayed as you enter them, giving you an incentive to try and beat the current high scores.

Second, to help you reach the end of the various courses, checkpoints have been added! If you fail at a given point of a course, you will find yourself placed back to the previous checkbox (assuming you hit it!). This will make some challenges like MountainB0y's potentially doable, now! I placed these checkpoints myself, if you've designed one of these courses and would like to see changes to their locations, please get in touch.

If you're interested in creating your own parkour challenges, ask a staff member to access the side door, leading to the building area. Once your challenge is ready, get in touch with Doctacosa to get it properly added.

See you tomorrow for a word from our sponsors about the network!

Day 2: The return of Mario Kart-style racing!
From Doctacosa

I'm extremely happy to announce the long-awaited return of our Racing minigame, accessible straight from the lobby!

If you're familiar with Mario Kart, you know what to expect: enter a race track, complete a given number of laps trying to outrace others, and fight using items to benefit yourself or hinder others. It's a lot of chaotic fun that you can easily join at any time, or even do it on your own through time trials, so give it a try when you have the chance!

Two tracks are currently available: recreations of Donut Plains from Super Mario Kart, and Bowser's Castle from Mario Kart 64. Plans for more are already underway.

For the best experience, download and activate the CreeperKart resource pack!

This is something that we used to have, but a string of game updates left this game mode in a bad state. After a lot of work by myself and others, it has been fixed and is now better than ever. Future updates should also be easier to handle, and I fully intend this to remain a permanent fixture of the Slab

See you at the races, and join us tomorrow for upgrades to something familiar!

Day 1: A look back to Day One
From Doctacosa

Ten years are nice, but most of you haven't been around for that long, and you might be curious to see how things started!

For the next week, you can access Laurasia's spawn as it existed on launch day! To do so, make your way to Central and access Seasonal through the TransHub, near the train station. You will find yourself still in Central... but as it stood 10 years ago! Feel free to explore the raw scenery, or try to relive the early days by surviving yourself. What you will find is the entire world as it existed at the time, no other settlements existed anywhere at that point.

The first image shows what you can find in this retro world, the second is a wider view of Central as it stands to this day.

Tenth Anniversary!
From Doctacosa

Can you believe it? As of today, the Creeper's Lab has been officially live for 10 years!! What a ride it has been. Many of you have been around for just a few months, while a few rare ones have been here since the first weeks. No matter in which category you fall in, I'd like to offer you a big thank you for making this corner of the Internet the success it has been!

The past year has been a busy one, as always! Here are some things worth noting:

Such a landmark anniversary can't wrap up too quickly, though! As such, I'm excited to announce a full week worth of updates, starting tomorrow! If you were already here five years ago, you have an idea what to expect: daily updates including new features, updates and announcements. Make sure to tune in tomorrow for the first one! Also, reserve your Saturday night - we'll be having a special event at 10pm Eastern time, an hour after Events Night begins!!

For now, some of you might be interested to see how much a server can evolve over time. I've prepared a video showing the progression of Central's core areas between launch day and now! I'm having trouble uploading it to our YouTube channel, so you can access it here for now. Use the password "creeper".

Can we do ten more years? I'd sure like to think so! Tune in tomorrow for the first of seven days of updates!

Building contest: help the villagers!
From Doctacosa

Not long ago, a young group of settlers migrated from the town of Sandusky to a new area across Blue Bay – seeking adventure and riches in the Spruce wooded hills to the East.

The small group docked at the mouth of a rambling river that they knew they could use to move further inland, but they fell in love with the fertile land along the shores and began to settle in. They named their town Osimiri Ihu.

However, just as the settlers had begun to thrive, disaster struck.

The new, small town was attacked by a band of vicious raiders, who used the very river the settlers had admired to lay siege to the unprepared youth, destroying what the settlers had built, and taking nearly everything they had.

Only a few survived the onslaught, hiding below the town’s new Community Center; but they were young and unskilled, and now fearful. They could not rebuild their town. They made what little repairs they could, but in despair over their losses, they were ready to give up.

Just then a newcomer arrived, using a magic the settlers had only glimpsed before, long ago in Sandusky. Seeing the devastation of the town, this newcomer offered to help them rebuild, seeking nothing in return but a promise that they would flourish.

The desperate villagers of Osimiri Ihu accepted. Thus, the newcomer gave them a Book of Instruction and assured them that help would arrive in 3 days. Then the newcomer disappeared, using the same magic as when they had arrived. The villagers placed the book on a stand, and waited…

So- I come to you: builders of Creeper’s Lab. In return for awards from the Gods, I seek your assistance in the rebirth of this unfortunate town and its villagers. Make your way North by Netherrail to Lily Keep Station, then follow the rail for the Teulu Nav Hub and you will see the rail that will lead you to Osimiri Ihu. Alternatively, the Gods have provided a more powerful magic to allow you to warp right to the town from the End of Time – but only one day each week.

The plight of the villagers is severe, so I grant you just 1 month to do your work. Your job will be to create a build around a trade or type of work that will benefit the village, as well as to help the populace grow, and finally train a villager for the job you have prepared for them. In the Community Center of Osimiri Ihu you will see the Book of Instruction, which will give you further information.

Good Luck!

Monthly challenges update: November 2021
From Doctacosa

New month, new challenges! We're leaving behind the orangeness but not quite starting the Holiday-season-that-shall-not-be-named. Let's see what's on the program this month!

Kenorland: UHC returns!

Our classic UHC challenge in Kenorland is back after a few months of break time. The new world is custom-made, featuring an interesting selection of biomes, mountains and caves. Try to complete the four targets without dying, as failing to stay alive ejects you to the lobby for a week!

Science

Grab your sling shots and head over to Hunter's Lodge to defeat Colossus, the Pilgrims and their turkies! The Pilgrims weren't the first English settelers in America! They were aiming for Jamestown, but instead ended up in Plymouth!

The Horsemen Quests are making an encore, with no change - as the collecting tasks are focused on newer blocks, maybe you gathered enough in Seasonal this October? (Hint: Seasonal is still up for a few days!) See the Horseman Points Guide for an in-depth look at the quests, points, and how to cash them in!

If you're interested in becoming a Horsemen Acolyte, you need to submit an application every month to gather your tokens! To do so, visit the Horsemen island at the Creeper Citadel.

Guilds

As with every new month, the guilds have new targets. You have until the end of this month to complete them and claim your tokens!

New this month, suggestion boxes have been added to each guild room for Masters, in Gondwana. Place your own suggestions for future targets using an item, block or named piece of paper with your proposal. Maybe this would help you in an ongoing project, but there are no guarantees your wish will be granted!

New apprentices, you start in Laurasia's Guild in Central, then gather points to work your way up to Rodinia, Superia, then Gondwana. Everyone else, all four guildhalls are now available to you, should you have unlocked the access.

Once you have been granted the rank of Master, you can obtain Council Tokens from the Master Guilds in Gondwana. These can be traded for special rewards back at the Council Chamber, at the Creeper Citadel. Each guild on each world also has its own range of rewards, so browse through to find what catches your eye!

If you need details on any of these, the wiki page about the Monthly Challenges is updated as soon as each of these is ready at the beginning of the month!

The Headless Rider is restless and wants others to share his fate. As such, Kimonellos invites you to a PvP Tournament of the Head Hunter variety! In this challenge, you will fight in PvP as usual, with the difference that the final scores will be determined by the amount of heads you will gather from your kills... or others'!

Sponsored events in October - Extended bonuses!
From Doctacosa

Many of you enjoyed the player-run events that we had in September. With the success of this new model, Sora and I have decided to extend the special rewards for any events run throughout October! That's double the usual Merit Points and Vouchers for any event sponsor, plus bonus Horsemen Points!

While most choose to run their events at the start of Events Nights, on Saturdays, this is not an obligation: you can choose any date and time of the week that suits you. If you'd like to run one, pick a template that interests you, then read the instructions at the top of the page to reserve a time and date. Future events will be posted about in this space.

As a reminder, this is for play events - building contests have different guidelines.

A voting option for Bedrock players!
From Doctacosa

Some of you already know that you can vote for the Creeper's Lab on various servers list. In exchange, you can earn a Merit Point. So far, this only worked for Java Edition players, and our Bedrock players had to do without. Well, not anymore!

After some additional work, there's now a voting option dedicated to people playing on Bedrock Edition! It's a single list for now, but it works just like the others: visit it, enter your player name as it appears in-game, click the "Vote" button, and you're done!

As a reminder, if you vote on at least half the lists for your platform, you earn one Merit Point. You can do this every day, so the points can add up quickly if you do the effort! Plus, this gives the Creeper's Lab an extra bit of visibility, helping us to recruit new players, so it's a win-win!

In-game, typing /vote will give you the list. You can also browse on the website in Basics -> Help & contributions, then scroll down to get all the links you need.

Monthly challenges update: September 2021
From Doctacosa

Kenorland: Breaking Bed, take 2!

After all that grinding last month, it would be nice to have a chance to rest, wouldn't it?

This month's challenge is a return of Breaking Bed, under a different formula, with the same goal: find and/or craft each bed color, then break it. Each differently colored bed broken is worth one Merit Point, for a possible total of 16.

To the opposite of the previous run, there are no bed superbosses, so that's one thing you don't need to worry about. There could be something else in all that dirt, though...

Science

Gothmog and his minions are trying to steal the Declaration of Independence so I must steal it first! Stop the Balrog and Nicolas Cage from stealing the Declaration of Independence! Beware of the BEEEEEES!

All Horsemen Quests have also been updated. See the Horseman Points Guide for an in-depth look at the quests, points, and how to cash them in!

Guilds

As with every new month, the guilds have new targets. You have until the end of this month to complete them and claim your tokens!

Sponsored events in September - run your own!
From Doctacosa

Some of you might not be aware that you can run your own events - you don't need to wait for one to be announced, you can take the initiative! These can be PvP, minigames, Carnival runs, races and more. And we've got something to sweeten the deal for you.

For all of September, anyone who chooses to run their own event will see the rewards doubled - that's free Merit Points and Vouchers for you! Plus, courtesy of the Horseman of Death, you will also receive bonus Horsemen Points! If you need a reminder on what these can be good for, I invite you to read the wiki's page on our virtual currencies.

But, "How do I run an event?", you might be asking yourself? It's easy, since we've got templates ready to go!

  1. Look through the set of templates and pick one that interests you.
  2. Go post on the forums with the date, time and event type that you want to run.
  3. Once confirmed, it will be posted on the website's calendar, in the news, plus in our Steam group to notify its followers.

That's it! There are four weekends in September, and you can pick any time of your choosing. Multiple events can happen during the same weekend if there's enough interest, as long as they don't overlap each other.

Note that building contests follow different guidelines.

Questions? Get in touch, we'll be happy to answer them!

Lobby refresh!
From Doctacosa

The familiar lobby that you use to move between worlds has received a full overhaul! Gone is the stone box of waterfalls, in is a more varied landscape waiting to be explored! All world entry points have remained in their locations, so you get the advantages of an updated scenery without the confusion of having to find your way around.

On first join, players will automatically get two books: one describing the various wings of the lobby, the other offering a summary of our Survival worlds. These will hopefully be useful to newcomers as they learn what we have to offer.

Have fun exploring!

Brixton Estate Contest Results
From Doctacosa

The Brixton Estate building contest has wrapped up, and it's time to look at the winners! Without further delay:

1st Place: NicDaKermit
2nd Place: AlexTheTrain
3rd Place: Exodio

Your prizes have been placed outside the front door of all builds. Remember that every participant could earn a little something, so be sure to make the detour to claim your goodies! Tokens can be traded at the vendor next to the Nether portal.

See the contest results page for the full list of entries. Due to the difficulty of taking nice looking screenshots inside smaller builds, only the winning entries have visuals. To better appreciate all entries, go visit the Estate in-game!

The Brixton Estate area is now available once again for general building. Anyone looking to claim another house is welcome to do so, along with previous participants wanting to bring their entry further. Thanks to Twixxi for running another fun event, and congrats to all participants!

The Games section is back!
From Doctacosa

After a few days of downtime, the Games section of the lobby is back online! Fans of Parkour, PvP, TNT Tag and World 8, feel free to jump in right away.

With the higher amount of interest in Kenorland this month, mixed with the ongoing presence of the temporary world of Tasmantis, the physical server hosting us was getting overcrowded. This meant that players would have faced the dreaded "High server load" notification too often. To solve this, I have moved the minigames on a different platform entirely, helping you get where you want, when you want!

Monthly challenges update: August 2021
From Doctacosa

Kenorland: Grindatron

The popular Grindatron makes its return on Kenorland this month!

This world, accessible in Kenorland through the lobby, gives you the target of a different block or item to find every 4 hours. Find the item in the required quantity, return it to the enderchest located at spawn (0, 0), and you're done!

The catch is, you have a limited amount of energy to complete the objective, so you need to manage your resources to complete this in an efficient manner. Each goal completed gives you a Merit Point, making this a great way to quickly build up a supply of them!

Changes since last time:

  • The items from both 1.16 and 1.17 have been added to the rotation, get that blackstone and copper ready!
  • The odds of getting some targets have been rebalanced, including lowering the rates of coral and music discs.
  • The difficulty for the first several days has been lowered; the challenge will now ramp up to the 10th day of the month.

For the full details on how this works, see the guide on the challenges page. Anyone can enter at any time, there is no direct competition, each target you complete is worth one Merit Point!

Science

Have you ever seen a dressed Rancor? No? Well, Captain Underpants tried to change that, and it didn't go well. Go calm both of them down at the Hunter's Lodge, all month long!

All Horsemen Quests have also been updated. See the Horseman Points Guide for an indepth look at the quests, points, and how to cash them in!

Guilds

After a mad rush last month, where the titles of Grand Masters were claimed surprisingly quickly, we're back to the regular rotation of monthly targets in all four guilds!

Plugins now available to server owners
From Doctacosa

As many of you already know, I've written multiple server plugins over time. Some were created to add brand new features, others to replace existing plugins that went unmaintained or weren't reliable enough.

Considering the amount of work I've put into these, I figured I'd go the extra distance and make them publicly available! As of now, I have five plugins ready for download, with more being planned for an eventual release.

If you're interested, you can access all the important links on a new page on Interordi. This currently includes downloads on Spigot and Polymart, plus their full source code on GitHub.

This isn't something that will be relevant to most of you, as you're already having fun playing on the Creeper's Lab, but some here also run their own servers and might have a use for them!

Building Contest: Brixton Estate
From Twixxi

The (lesser known) Interior Decorator's Guild invites you to take part in a building contest!

The Contest is being held at the Brixton Estate (West Nether Line to Alucard, then up one floor). There are 24 identical plots available to choose from, which the observant may notice already have houses built on them. The focus of this contest is interior and garden decoration, not building skills. Add a sign with your name to the plot you wish to claim.

The Contest is open now and will close on 8th August!

Shop for microblocks at the Mini Mart!
From Doctacosa

Those looking for a bit more variety in building blocks are welcomed to visit the newest destination in Central's Commercial District - the Mini Mart!

Image

The Mini Mart offers microblock versions of the standard blocks in the game, opening up some new possibilities for decor within your builds. This is done using disguised player heads, so you can orient the blocks the way you want.

Designed by Kimonellos, the place offers pretty much every single block in the game, including the newest 1.17 goodies, and plans to be expanded for future game updates.

The trades are a 1:1 between the regular material and the microblock. Be sure to grab the instructions book within (to your right after entering) for the full details.

You will find the Mini Mart in Laurasia's Central, in the Commercial District, nearby the Creeper Bazaar. Be sure to visit when you get the chance!

New Privacy Policy and Terms of Use
From Doctacosa

I'm introducting today to the entire Interordi network, including the Creeper's Lab, an official Privacy Policy alongside Terms of Use. Both are used to highlight how your data is stored and used, what expectations you can have while using the websites and game servers, and under what conditions you are allowed to access the whole network.

There is nothing crazy to be found in either documents, as they cover basic expectations you would have from most places. I was reaching a point where I needed both in order to pursue some projects, so I finally took the time to get the proper documents into place. These are requirements from third-party partners to allow use of their own tools and platforms, which I'm planning to work on in the upcoming months to add new features. As such, I invite you to review both pages when you get the chance. They are linked at the bottom of most pages here and elsewhere.

These will officially go live on 1 August 2021.

Bug fixes
From Doctacosa

There's always work to be done somewhere, and now I'm happy to confirm that two notable bugs have been fixed.

First, a correction on achievements tracking: shift-clicking items in the personal crafting grid or on a crafting table will properly count the total quantity of items crafted, so you don't need to click them one by one anymore.

Second, breaking your bed will now reset your spawn point to the world you're in, restoring the vanilla behavior. It used to be that breaking a bed wouldn't change anything, forcing you to set your spawn somewhere else manually. That's no longer needed! For this to work properly, make sure to right-click your favorite bed once again to ensure your place is set; you don't need to wait for night to come.

Now running 1.17.1!
From Doctacosa

This is the time that many of you have been waiting for: we're officially running 1.17, Caves & Cliffs: Part I! Java players, set your client to 1.17.1 to continue playing with us. Bedrock players, you're already set to go!

You might be looking for the new materials and blocks introduced in this update. To let you find them easily, a rebooted Tasmantis is now available in the survival wing of the lobby. The previous spawn town has been moved over, but the rest of the world is brand new, with a variety of biomes waiting to be discovered. Explore, gather the materials you want, and bring them elsewhere! This world is temporary - don't make builds you want to keep! It will be removed once interest dies down.

With 1.18 already promising more changes, no changes will be done to the existing worlds for now.

The resource pack downloads have been updated to clear any notification about outdated files. There is no new content available.

Science players, read on for new information from Sora!

Event: Spider Dome this weekend!
From Doctacosa

Who's in a fighting mood?

It's time to go back once again to the Spider Dome and face hordes of monsters! For those not familiar with the concept, a group of players go into the titular arena and fight waves of mobs summoned by none other than myself. Fun, tricks, laughs and deaths are all to be expected, while you get to keep the drops of anything you can get your hands on!

We'll start at 10pm, Eastern time, this Saturday. No science-based equipment allowed: bring your best, purely vanilla gear and see how you will do!

Support for Java Edition 1.17.1 has been added
From Doctacosa

Minecraft Java Edition 1.17.1 was released yesterday, and the network has been updated to allow connections from this new version. The servers themselves still run 1.16.5 and you are encouraged to stick to that version for now. Bedrock players, no changes no report.

Work on the actual update to 1.17 is progressing, but not quite ready yet due to compatibility issues with at least one plugin. I'm hoping to be able to see that through soon.

Resource packs updated for Bedrock players
From Doctacosa

The resource packs page has been updated for our Bedrock players!

Previously, the packs were labelled as only "Java" or "Windows 10", but it turns out that they work just as well on Android (and likely iOS). As such, the presentation on the page has been updated to note that the main pack is available to a wider range of players.

Plus, with Bedrock Edition also having the ability to install multiple ones, the various add-ons have been added to the page. You like our main resource pack, but aren't a fan of the potato rain? Then grab Notato, install it with a higher priority than the main pack, and you'll be set!

Visit the resource packs page for the full information.

Guilds: Grand Master Race Information
From Twixxi

When the Guild tasks reset on 1st July, some players will finally be able to obtain enough tokens to reach the rank of Master!

As we announced when the Guilds launched, the first person to claim the rank of Master in each Guild will be named the Grand Master of that Guild! As well as the prestige of the title and a seat in the Guild Council Chamber, each Grand Master will be rewarded with 50 Merit Points and a unique reward. You can only be Grand Master of one Guild, so choose wisely!

So that you can plan for the day, we can confirm that the Guild tasks will start to be reset at approximately 7pm EST on 1st July. Tasks have to be changed manually one at a time, so keep an eye on chat for announcements of when each Guildhall has been changed over.

To claim the Grand Master title, purchase the relevant Master Certificate from the Expert Guildhall in Superia, which costs 100 tokens. Then take your Certificate to the Master Guildhall in Gondwana and push the button at Reception. Unlike the other Guildhalls, there is a separate button at Reception for each Guild so that you are in full control of which one you redeem first. If you are the first player to reach the rank of Master in a Guild, and you have not already become Guild Master in another Guild, then you will automatically be granted the Grand Master role!

image

A few important things to note:

  • If you are going for Master in more than one Guild, remember that you will be given Grand Master only in the first unclaimed Guild that you redeem. Choose carefully.
  • Remember that clever workarounds to bypass challenge requirements are not allowed. Given the fact that this month includes a race element, people are specifically forbidden from preparing big stacks of blocks in advance to mine for the Miner's Guild Challenge. I will be checking, so go out in the world and find those resources properly!
  • In the interests of fairness, staff who are participating in the race are asked to travel between worlds via the lobby rather than switching directly.

Best of luck everyone. I'll be around on the day if there are any problems!

~Twixxi, Guild Leader

The full list of players is back!
From Doctacosa

Something that had to be sacrified for the sake for 1.17 compatibility was quickly noticed by many: the full list of players was no longer shown on pressing tab. Worry no more, as it is back!

Image

Java players now get a display similar to the previous one, showing all players along with their location on the network. The yellow number indicates the ping of each person, giving them a clue to the quality of their connection. Newly added is a clock set to the server's timezone (Eastern time); this way, people located elsewhere don't need to play a guessing game as to when the next event will start.

On Bedrock, the display is more limited due to the stronger restrictions of the game. Still, the full list of players is also available. A notable improvement from before is that all player names now display properly no matter where people are, so there are no cryptic ~BTLP entries to be found!

Introducing Interordi Accounts
From Doctacosa

To help new and old players alike to manage their profiles more easily, I'm happy to introduce today Interordi Accounts!

This new tool becomes the entry point of any new potential players, giving them a simplified interface to register and edit their accounts. It's also available to everyone else, of course! All registration guides will now point to this.

The eventual goal is that any tool on the Creeper's Lab (or the wider Interordi network) that requires a login will rely on Interordi Accounts. For now, this includes the whitelist, forums and some staff tools. The wiki will eventually adopt them, too.

For those already familiar with the forums, you can access your account from there, as usual, with the full range of features.

More functionality will be added over time!

Now compatible with 1.17!
From Doctacosa

Minecraft 1.17 has been released today, and it's time for us to prepare for the update too! The network has been updated to accept connections from 1.17, so you can continue to play with us right away. However, this isn't the actual upgrade to 1.17 yet.

All servers are still running 1.16.5, this change is simply to let you join without problems. Java players, I recommend sticking with 1.16.4 or 1.16.5 for the best experience. Bedrock players, you will need to update to 1.17 to be able to connect. However, I'll say this again, no new game features are available yet.

The actual upgrade will happen once all necessary server software has been updated and tested, including the plugins. I don't know as of this writing when that will happen.

One thing that's been removed is the player list displaying people across all worlds, as it was causing too many compatibility issues. I will be looking for a replacement. In the meantime, I invite you to try the new /players in-game command, which will give you the same information in a new format!

Monthly challenges update: June 2021
From Doctacosa

Kenorland: Race away

Race Away is back for another round, get these blocky legs going!

As always, the goal is to reach the highest X coordinate possible, following the East cardinal direction. This new world will be a bigger challenge to navigate; slow and steady might be the key to victory!

A starting pack of items is provided at the spawn point, make sure to collect it before going. Due to the rare nature of any food items, your health is set to slowly regenerate.

The top 30 runners will get Merit Points based on their best position, in decreasing order. That is, the top runner will get 30, the second place 29, third place 28, and so on.

Science

For June, enjoy the time on the beach, with rattling Bone Towers and Mr. Sun himself defending their domain in the Hunter's Lodge!

All Horsemen Quests have also been updated. See the Horseman Points Guide for an indepth look at the quests, points, and how to cash them in!

Guilds

The tasks for the guilds have been rotated in Laurasia, Rodinia and Superia. Multiple players are still in the running for the Grand Master title of each guild; keep going if you want a chance at claming one! The first opportunity for these will be next month, if people keep going at the current pace. More details will be shared before the end of the month. Good luck to everyone!

If you need details on any of these, the wiki page about the Monthly Challenges is updated as soon as each of these is ready at the beginning of the month!

Famine Birthday Event - Ethan Must Die
From MediaKlepto

A strange, black mold has appeared near the entrance to Pandora, and what would any good plague be without some death?

image

Your friendly neighorhood Famine here, asking you to clean up this mess. Following the trail of the foreign fungus will lead you to one of Pandora's native sporeling caves, so something in there must be bothering them. I'm leaving it up to you to get rid of it, and maybe bring something back for your troubles. To get to Pandora...

Via the Overworld: Currently, only the Cannon shortcut platform from the Creeper Citadel.
Via the Nether: South Nether Rail -> DeNile (2nd Stop) -> Pandora (3rd Floor)

Speaking of, that "jolly" old merchant back by the Rest House might be able to offer you something in exchange for what you find in there. I'm told he's also something of a foodie and may be willing to cook you up some special buffs if you bring him the right ingredients. Rumor has it he'll even be sticking around after this whole thing is over.

image

This event runs from now until the close of Events Night at 9pm EST on Sunday, May 23rd.

Until then, that scrambling lunatic Ethan Winters will be available for slaughter through a spawner in the sporeling cave at the end of the moldy trail through the mountain in Pandora. He drops a handful of items - some useful, and some not so much. He's not exactly a pushover, so this may wind up being more of a war of attrition than anything else. Be careful; he may seem harmless, though he's anything but.

One of the more handy things he'll drop is the Family Photo, which you'll want to take back and deliver to the Duke's Emporium by pressing the button on the barrel next to his cart. Do this and you'll receive a new friend to accompany you in the form of a parasitic little Cadou with the following stats:

  • Cadou (Totem of Undying) [When in offhand: +8 Attack Damage, -8 Max Health, +0.08 Speed]

This can only be done once per player, so despite how overwhelming the desire may be you only really need to kill Ethan one time.

Good luck getting your hands on the prize before time runs out. Happy birthday to me!

Love?,
~ Famine

Running your own events, now with templates!
From Doctacosa

It's been possible for a long time for anyone to run their own activities during Events Nights, but most people either don't know how, or have no idea where to start. Well, we've got something for you!

We've prepared a list of templates that you can use to run your own events, including what to do, the location, duration and rewards to offer to participants. As an extra incentive, event runners are also eligible for their own rewards if they choose to claim it!

You can check the new events page for the full details and instructions on running your own events. Note that these are templates - think references - and not absolute instructions: you can also take one as a base to develop your own concept.

This comes with a major overhaul of the attractions page; each location now has more information on each destination, including a description and the directions to get there.

If you choose to run an event, select a template and go write a post on the forums with the details. Once confirmed, it will get published on the website, social media channels, Steam group and site calendar for everyone to know! If you have any questions, ask Doctacosa either on the forums or through Discord.

Thanks to Sora for doing a lot of the initial ground work on this, and being patient with me as I was making the necessary preparations!

Updated maps
From Doctacosa

The maps for all worlds have been updated with a new visual layer! This interface has an improved display and modern controls which will be easier to use, especially for mobile users. Don't worry, though - this is still the same tool as before, with all the features you've come to love!

Notably, this fixes the issue of the endlessly reloading map after a server restart!

Related, Laurasia's map display has been wiped and is currently regenerating. Depending on how fast this runs, this could take a few or several days. The process will fix some color glitches while the map areas that have been deleted over time will be cleanly removed.

Building contest: a city in Levansk!
From Doctacosa

You might have heard about Levansk lately. A group has settled around it, the walls are up, it's now time to fill in the place, and that will happen through our next building contest! This event is hosted by ~Offbrand_Neo.

Rules

The theme of this contest is to create a mid-20th century European town or city, although departures from that are allowed.

Quoting Neo: "People can be judged on several factors. In the case of a store or housing area, usefulness and creativity. In the case of an amusement or attraction, creativity and fun factor. In the case of farms, mechanical effectiveness. In the case of purely decorative stuff itll be purely based on build quality and attention to detail. On all accounts looking good will be factored in."

Lots are already predefined; look for the basalt block that mark the corners of each building spot. Four districts have been defined, your build idea must be made in the matching district within Levansk. See the local indications for more information.

Claim a lot by placing a sign with your name on it, then get building! You can claim multiple lots if you want, as everything you do will be judged together, so plan accordingly.

Vertically, you're allowed to go between y=45 to y=85.

The building period starts today and ends on June 1st at 12pm CST / 1pm Eastern time.

Location

You will want to make your way to Levansk. From Central, ride the East Nether line to the Doctralia substation, go to the third floor, then choose the Levansk Community Line.

Prizes

The top winner is eligible to $25 USD, offered by ~Offbrand_Neo.

Additionally, the top three winners will get 50, 30 and 10 Merit Points respectively.

Good luck to all!

About playing pranks and jokes
From Doctacosa

Many players like to ask us if pranks are allowed, or causing trouble to another player "just for fun".

What you think is a "harmless prank" won't always be understood as such by your target. Things done "just for fun" aren't funny for everyone. Some will get angry, others will be scared about what's going on. Some also get worried about bugs and get in touch with the staff for help, only to realize later that nothing was seriously wrong.

That ends up causing trouble to the people being targeted and the staff which looks into potential problems. Taking items "for fun" is dangerously close to stealing and should be avoided, same as changing someone else's build.

Pranks aren't strictly forbidden, but think carefully about setting one up: your target might not like it as much as you think.

This information has been added to the rules page to ensure that everyone has a chance to be aware.

Monthly update: science, guilds and more
From Doctacosa

Kenorland: UHC in an ancient setting*

UHC makes a return in Kenorland, featuring a very appropriate April-themed map. This is one where completing the four targets could be as entertaining as exploring this unique world itself, so make sure you don't miss it!

Science

Today is Easter, and to celebrate, the Hunter's Lodge features Sæhrímnir, a Predatory Teddy Bear, Scared Children and none other than Zombie Jesus.

Plus, for the item gatherers out there, all Horsemen Quests have been updated.

Guilds

New quests are accessible to everyone in Laurasia, plus Rodinia's doors are open to everyone who has gathered enough point in each respective guild.

For those wondering how the competition on Grand Masters is going, Twixxi had the following to say: "There are currently 19 Players still in the running for Grand Master of at least one Guild, with five of those Players being in the running for all six of them! Each of the six Guilds have between 6 and 13 Players still in the running."

The competition is still strong, and there's always the chance of current forerunners falling behind, so keep on completing these tasks if you want to have a chance at earning a unique Grand Master status!

We now have a page on the wiki listing all monthly challenges, which we aim to update as soon as each person has rotated their section. Consider keeping a bookmark to that reference so you can easily access it!

Compatibility improvements for Bedrock players
From Doctacosa

Bedrock Edition players, this is the day that many of you have been waiting for: all the special crafting tables and inventories are now supported! This includes the addition of:

  • Smithing table
  • Grindstone
  • Loom
  • Cartography table
  • Stonecutter
  • Beacon
  • Horse

Furthermore, enchantment tables now use the interface that you expect, and lecterns will display their books. This was one of the last major limitations to our Bedrock support, bringing us ever closer to have all players on the same level, no matter how they join!

With these new additions, the convenience Bedrock traders at Moosemart will be removed. The Super Loom at Central will remain accessible as it offers additional features beyond that.

I hope you enjoy these additions!

Improvements to servers loading and stability
From Doctacosa

A set of improvements that I've been developing for several weeks to increase the performance of the servers is now ready and live!

With this new model, the game servers that don't have any active players will automatically turn themselves off after a while. They are set to come back online on their own when you want to access them; in that case, you will see a notification telling you that the world you have selected is currently being prepared. Once ready, you will be moved over.

If the server you were last playing on isn't loaded on your next visit, you will land in the lobby. In that case, go to re-enter the world and you will be allowed back inside after a short load time. If you are moving frequently between worlds, don't worry: there is a delay between the last player leaving and a world shutting down, so you won't be facing constant loading screens.

In rare instances, if the players are spread out over many worlds, you might get an error about a high server load. In that case, you won't be able to enter the location where you wanted to go until more resources free up; in that case, you are invited to wait it out by going somewhere with active players. I don't expect this to happen often, but it's possible.

This should greatly improve the game speed and stability compared to what we experienced in the last month or so. Most servers now have more memory available, as those that are unused at any moment completely clear the room for others.

Monthly rotation of challenges
From Doctacosa

It's time for a new set of challenges and targets as we enter the month of March!

Kenorland: Randomizer

Do you like to expect the unexpected? Then go try your hand at figuring out the madness that Kenorland offers this month! In this special world, everything you can encounter is randomized, including but not limited to mined blocks, mob drops, crafting recipes, and more!

Anyone who tries the challenge and lasts more than a minute will earn 5 Merit Points.

Guilds: Rodinia opens!

If you missed it, last month saw the opening of the Guilds of the Creeper's Lab. Assuming that you completed the targets in February, then do the new ones that became available today, you can level up and gain access to the Rodinia guildhall! You will find it a short distance south from spawn, next to Rodinia Central Station.

To access the Rodinia challenges, you first need to purchase the certificate of the selected guild in Laurasia, then bring it to the reception desk in Rodinia. Once you've unlocked your access, you can safely store away your certificate.

Science areas

The Hunter's Lodge takes a green shade this month with Evil Leprechauns, while a familiar friend from Requiem is in the vicinity. All Horsemen Quests have also been cycled; go to the Creeper Citadel to view the full list in one convenient location!

As a reminder, the science areas, which include everything related to the Horsemen and more, get regular updates and tuning. You can track these improvements by checking the changelog on the forums; consider subscribing to the topic to get notified about any updates!

Building contests: shops at Kamachi's
From Doctacosa

Did I hear someone say "building contest when"? I'm pretty sure I heard someone say "building contest when". So, building contest NOW! Our resident YouTuber xKamachi is inviting you to build shops at his location, with the top prize being a $10 Amazon gift card. Read on for the full details!

First, here is the full video with the story introduction, followed by the directions and contest details:

Rules

Your building goal is to claim a lot then create a shop from any time period.

As usual, select a plot, put a sign with your name on it to claim the spot, and get building! You own your plot from bedrock to sky limit; make sure not to interfere with the nearby players.

As an incentive to get you to start early, four larger plots are available on a first come, first serve basis. The rest all have a standard 20x20 building area.

The building period starts NOW and lasts until the end of 15 March.

Location

The contest area is at xKamachi's place, directly accessible from the overworld Western Line.

Alternatively, you can access the West Nether rail, stop at Salad Facts (the second substation), go down two floors and follow the Kamachi Tawa line. Exit the building, turn right, and you're there!

Prizes

Three winners will be selected. The top winner will get a $10 Amazon giftcard while all three get a selection of items, including armor, banners, building blocks and more. I invite you to check the video description for the full list!

Judging will happen soon after the building period has closed.

Good luck to everyone!

New helpful command for challenge areas
From Doctacosa

"Anyone in Requiem?" "Is anyone in Asphodel?"

These are common questions that you might see (or ask!) during Events Nights. For your convenience, you can now try the new /anyone command! It will tell you the amount of players present in each science region and challenge area. This updates in real-time and gives you a chance to check before you travel to your destination.

Note that, all of the regions being located in Laurasia, this command will only work when used on that server.

Resource pack update
From Doctacosa

Our official resource pack has been updated with a small quality-of-life change: items with high enchantments and potion levels will now display their power level in roman numerals like all others instead of falling back to decimal numbers. Go download the new version now!

This trick only works for Java players, but the display for Bedrock players looks better by default already, so you're set.

Thanks to Twixxi for the improvement and Sphenicus for the pack update!

Updates on our social media channels
From Doctacosa

Maybe you haven't seen it yet, but our YouTube channel has picked up in activity! Kamachi has been creating new content to breathe some life in our channel, with four video being added so far. Go check out our channel to see the latest additions, with more to come! If you've got suggestions on which builds would be worth a showcase, Kamachi is looking for your input!

Meanwhile, on the Instagram front, I'm now making sure that each of our news post has an update posted on our page at the same time. This can be a good way to know that something changed, and since many of our newer players found their way here from Instagram and Facebook, consider giving that a follow!

Remember that there are plenty of other ways to keep up with our news. There's the main website, obviously; the forums; the news feed; our Facebook, Tumblr and Twitter feeds; and the email newsletter every month. Plus, if an event gets scheduled, it gets added to our Steam group so you automatically get a reminder after you join!

Building areas for beginners
From Doctacosa

A common complaint from new players is the difficulty of locating new building grounds in Laurasia. Sure, there is plenty of land available, but finding your way when you're a new beginner is more difficult.

To help with this, we're adding today on Laurasia two new Nether lines dedicated to beginners. Reachable directly from the spawn platform, or the basement of Grand Central Station, these two let people get to a nice variety of untouched biomes. Each destination can be reached in less than five minutes!

To make it even simpler, these new lines are separate from the main Nether rail network, so people can't get lost. Once an area is developed enough, its rail will get removed from the beginners section and get redirected to the main network. I'm asking our established players not to use these - you know where you can look, so you don't need it! Instead, please leave this for the convenience of newcomers. If you see someone new asking for directions, suggest this as a good starting point!

Try the collectibles system!
From Doctacosa

You're playing through the science areas, collecting items, storing them carefully, but you have a creeping thought in your mind: "Did I skip something by mistake?"

Thanks to StTheo, we now have a solution for all the collectors out there! As you might know, you can visit the Cavern of Science, under the Creeper Citadel, to see the full list of items that can be obtained. As of today, you can bring a shulker box and sheets of paper to the cavern, tap the box against one of the chests, and obtain a blank copy of its content! You can then bring that back home, replace the named sheets of paper with your actual items, and view your current progress. It's like filling a collectibles album, one item at a time!

Here's the full details on how this works, courtesy of StTheo.

New feature: coordinates display
From Doctacosa

I'm introducing today a small feature to help you navigate the various worlds: the /pos command!

Used as-is, this displays your current position along with the cardinal direction you're looking at. You can also use /pos on to have a display that auto-updates as you move around; it will fade out after a few seconds of staying put. To completely turn it off, use /pos off.

This is available for both Java and Bedrock players and is a lighter alternative to the full debug screen, some client mods or Bedrock-only settings. Give it a try!

Race Away updates
From Doctacosa

It's early in the month, but some tuning to Race Away has been done!

The in-game positions display will now feature the progression of the runners in increments of 500 metres, so everyone can get a better idea on how things are going. On death, temporarily, the top position of that runner will be used instead. The network-wide chat announcements remain at 5000 metres increments.

The amount of hostile mobs that spawn has been lowered by 25% as the large number was actually causing lag both locally and server-side. Make no mistake, this still isn't a walk in the park!

January updates - Race Away and more!
From Doctacosa

Race Away!

Nature is angry.

You've plundered the land, grinded resources, all to empower yourself and hopefully earn a few points. Did you ever consider the consequences of such efforts, though...?

This month's challenge in Kenorland is Race Away! You start at 0, 0, with no equipment, and you must reach the highest X coordinate in the month by running East. Flee away from 2020, from these troubles, and run, run East, as far as you can!

There are no horses and no Nether to provide shortcuts. Dying sends you allllllll the way back to the beginning, so be careful! You can only move on the Z axis between -500 and 500.

All runners will earn Merit Points based on the amount of participants. Let's say that 10 people enter this month: whoever comes up first will earn 10 points, the second place 9, the third place 8, and so on. If there are 15 entrants, the first place will get 15 points, second 14, etc.

But remember: nature is angry.
