Mojang just released Minecraft 1.8.5 to fix some bugs, no new gameplay features being introduced. This new version is compatible with all other 1.8 releases, so you can upgrade at your leisure.
UPDATE: The same goes for the new 1.8.6 version.

*sigh* You know what'd be great, a freaking updated MCP release. They still haven't released one post 1.8

Maybe they will when you get around to finishing that utopia tree.

Aaaand now there's a 1.8.6 - one of the updates from 1.8.5 was listed again, apparently they didn't fix it entirely. "This update fixes an issue that was partially fixed in 1.8.5."

Bah, more exploits. At least they're fixing them!
Of course, one of the first comments I read right after the 1.8.5 announcement was "Just please don't force a 1.8.6 the same day because of a crash bug". Whoops!

Minecraft is getting the windows update treatment. Updates after you update to update the update to fix a bug in the update.

Well, it IS a Microsoft product after all...

Yeah, I didn't do a news post about it since it's compatible and I didn't want to overshadow the post for the upcoming event. At least they're not adding features forcing servers and clients to upgrade every few weeks. I like that part.
